Buying?

If you're searching for a specific Class ID, make sure not to add a space between the letters and the numbers (i.e. "MAN3025" will show you results, "MAN 3025" won't). Sorry, but this will be fixed soon.

If you still don't find what you're looking for that means the Guide hasn’t been added to our platform yet. So, the best thing you can do is request it by clicking on the “Can’t find it? Request it!” icon or scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Please fill out the request form with as much information as you can and submit it. Our team will use every resource we have to find it ASAP and you will be notified immediately when it is uploaded and available. We usually find it pretty fast!

After your purchase is confirmed, the Study Guide’s PDF will be sent to the inbox of the email you provided. If it is not there, please use your mailbox’s search feature and/or manually look into your Spam folder. You can also always email us for help and we’ll resend it.

Payments are all done electronically with your credit/debit card. It is fast, safe and secure. We trust this service to be provided by Stripe Connect, for more information, check it out here: https://stripe.com/connect.

Once your purchase is confirmed, your credit card is charged automatically.

Yup! We recommend this search method.

You should study of course, but also note that there is a watermark on every page of the guide. This is to ensure you will not resell, redistribute, or replicate the guide for profit. Though you own your copy of the Guide you do not own the right to duplicate that copy. This would be copyright infringement to the original creator of the content.

BookU doesn’t charge the Buyer anything! We only charge the Seller a 20% service fee, so all you pay is the price you see listed.

Selling?

First, to receive your sales revenue you need to set up your Account, most importantly the Merchant Account portion. Once this is set up payments from sales will be automatically deposited to your bank account every 2 days. If you haven’t setup your Merchant Account, please set it up as soon as possible so you can receive payment.

Second, once you login, goto your profile page and you will see in your dashboard the amount of sales you have had and the money you have made. Soon we will have this information associated with each specific guide you have listed.

Payments are all done electronically and are deposited directly to your bank account from the buyer’s credit/debit card. It is fast, safe, and reliable utilizing Stripe’s secure SSL-encrypted payments platform . You’ll need to set up a Merchant Account to receive the deposit, so create an account and fill in the necessary information, which includes your account and routing number as well as the last four digits of your Social Security number. It’s the same info you need to enter to use any other payments platform, so please don’t worry. BookU does not collect any of this information, it is collected directly by Stripe Connect which is extremely safe and secure utilizing their SSL-encrypted payments platform. To learn more visit: https://stripe.com/connect.

Once the purchase is confirmed and the Study Guide PDF is sent to the Buyer their credit card is charged instantaneously. The funds are deposited to your account on a rotating schedule every 2 days. If it was more frequent than that there would be an unnecessary amount of transfers in a short period of time, so this is as fast as we can do it. This can only occur if you have a Merchant Account set up. So, please set that up ASAP.

BookU only charges you if you have sold your item. There are no listing fees, but when your item is purchased we take a 20% service fee from your listing price. 2. Add Visual Aids. Visuals don’t work for every subject, but when they can be applied we recommend you insert them. They usually help someone understand and remember complex concepts.

We scan and read each guide that is submitted, checking for copyright infringement, plagiarism and quality. It is in this screening process that we determine if the guide meets our legal and quality standards. If you guide was rejected we email you describing the reason for dismissal. It is usually one of three things:

  • Copyright Infringement: Content is clearly under copyright of another individual, professor, university or other entity.
  • Poor Quality: Low density, unfinished, disorganized, and/or vague
  • Plagiarism: A matching guide already exists on our platform

We remove Study Guides from the marketplace because of their sales performance, quality, customer review, or reported and confirmed copyright infringement or plagiarism. We will contact you if your guide has been removed and explain in detail which reason we have for removing it.

We treat documents with explicit copyright labelling, unique content created by an individual, and material that is obviously created by an entity other than the seller as copyrighted material. “Copyright infringement is the use of works protected by copyright law without permission, infringing certain exclusive rights granted to the copyright holder, such as the right to reproduce, distribute, display or perform the protected work, or to make derivative works.” Therefore, all material that we can determine was not created by the seller we do not accept into our marketplace for sale.

We read every study guide submitted to search for obvious signs of copyright and we scan each guide to compare it to the rest of the platform's inventory.

Yes. Sorry, but we don’t make the rules, the government essentially always taxes earnings on anything sold for a profit. So, don’t worry, it’s not as intense of a process as you might think. Here are the basics for what you should do if you’re earning more than you are spending making the Study Guides you are selling:

  • First of all, everyone is different, and this is just general guidance. Make sure you consult a tax professional if you are making significant earnings. Unfortunately you are responsible for your unique situation. We are simply just here to help.
  • Federal Income Tax: BookU sellers in the US need to pay income taxes on their BookU sales. Income from your BookU sales is considered “self-employment income,” and BookU sellers must fill out a form Schedule C: Profit or Loss from Business. You will probably also be liable for self-employment tax and need to file a Schedule SE: Self-Employment Tax.
    • Note that you are only taxed on your BookU Net Profit; your sales minus your expenses.
    • If you had more than $20,000 in sales and received more than 200 payments through BookU during the year, you will receive a 1099-K from BookU. This reports to the IRS the gross amount of sales you had on BookU. Remember to offset this number with your expenses to calculate the taxable Net Profit.
    • One annoying thing to keep in mind is that the United States has a “pay-as-you-go” income tax, so you have to pay income taxes as you earn, not just at the end of the year. When you are employed usually your employer does this for you, withholding from each paycheck. But, when you are self-employed you have to handle this “pay as you go” process yourself, quarterly.
    • Quarterly Federal Taxes:
      • The good news is you only need to do this if you expect to owe more than $1,000 in taxes for the year. If that is the case, the IRS expects you to pay a fourth of the tax you owe each quarter. Quarterly estimated tax due dates are April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15. (The dates move if they fall on a weekend or holiday.)
      • To pay your estimated quarterly taxes, you can either:
        • Fill out a form 1040-ES and send it to the IRS address nearest to you. OR
        • You can file electronically using the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS). We recommend enrolling in the EFTPS because after you set it up you can use it as an automatic system for tax payments. It even allows you to pay over the phone.
      • How do I estimate my annual net profit before I even earn it!?
        • Try your best, but don’t worry too much, it’s called estimated for a reason. You will not be penalized as long as the amount you pay is at least equal to what you paid the year before.
        • If you are still worried, we recommend going to see a tax professional.
  • State Income Tax: State income tax is also usually required as quarterly estimated taxes by the self-employed. There are a few exceptions though, so we recommend looking up your state’s local tax authority and also asking a tax professional.
    • Sales Taxes: Sales tax laws vary by state, and digital products are tax exempt in many states in the US. Currently, BookU operates in states which do not consider items sold in digital form as “tangible personal property”, so they are not taxable.

We hope this guide has provided some helpful basic information about taxes. Please note that tax laws change frequently, and this information is not tax advice or legal advice. You are responsible for any use of this information. Please consult an attorney or tax expert if you have any questions.
